I am ripping scenes from DVD's to stick on my phone (3GP) just to ammuse me when I am bored. But I also want to make some decent screensavers for it - and they have to be the .GIF format. I am sure PSP Animation Wizard can do it but it crashes when I load them. So I have a AVI to GIF convertor - it was working fine and now has gone crap on me - all conversions are red?? Just wondered if there is a way to make really good ones using free software. I have Yahoo'ed the hell out of this and got nowhere. Cheers.
Since a .divx files is essentially just an avi files any app that supports avi input should work. Otherwise you could try mplayer with -vo gif89a. It can convert just about any video format, however it doesn't support any gif optimising.
