I've googled this all night and cannot find the answer
on my digital tv set top box the menu says "Antenna Power" ON or OFF
my television antenna is a standard RF on the roof with normal cables
is this considered to be passive (off) or active external power (on) ?

I'm in Australia - tech support told me to leave the setting for Antenna Power Off
got a new set top box and the manual says if you select antenna power On it will supply 5 volts of power to the antenna

so I'm assuming my tv antenna is catogorised as passive and if I was using some different kind with a power or some kind of boost I would need to set the power as On

I hope I'm on the right path here !!

If you are using basic aerial leave antenna power off. For antenna with downconverter or
integrated booster turn antenna power on. Basic aerial is probably not suitable for digital TV signal. You may have to fit digital antenna to suit digital set top box. You could enquire
locally as to which antenna others are using
