Any way to easily clone DVDs in the foreseeable future?

    Hi,

I'm new at this. I am considering buying one of the new Sony burners that support multiple DVD formats. I am a big DVD fan, and I'd like to backup some of my more often-played titles. I thought that, as CDs, there would be a relatively easy way, using cracks and such, to defeat the copy protection schemes and clone a DVD directly.

Of course, I now realize I'm wrong and because of the 2-layer problem, most of my discs would have to be split in two, or I'd have to lose the subtitles, 2nd video tracks, extras, etc., which just isn't an option for me.

What I'm wondering is whether waiting would do me any good. Do you guys think that maybe in the future we will have a method, whatever it may be, to copy DVDs as easily as CDs? I mean, not only does the process seem daunting and relatively obscure, but just having to change discs in the middle of a film is quite the inconvenience imo. Besides, this almost doubles the variable cost of DVD copying, since I'd have to buy two DVD-R discs for almost every title I want to copy...

    So?
