hi guys!am new to this site but it really looks cool!i do alot of converting ye and i was wondering is there a difference between divx and xvid and avi and what is the difference and also i was thinking of buying a divx dvd player and would that player play xvid and avi files too? thanks!!!
DivX is an MPEG-4 Part 2 video codec, XviD is also an MPEG-4 Part 2 video codec. However they are not the same. Just two implimentations of the same specs. avi is a container format. .divx is also a container format. It is based/hacked on avi and is backwards compatible. A DivX certified player will play an XviD avi, provided that it is encoded with a matching profile. Also in some cases it needs to have a DivX fourCC to work.
