if someone had a phone, which did not belong to them, and took the sim card out,and replaced it with another "registered sim",is the phone then traceable to the owner of the new/replaced "registered sim", can they link the phone with the new owners details,if you catch my drift this is purely a hypothetical question by the way. ahem
what is most likely to happen depending upon the network the phone is on, it would be blocked from making any calls well im speaking from experience in the UK, but i dont know about the US if the phone gets blocked, then it can be unlocked but it will not work upon the network you were on originally. so if you were on orange, you couldnt use orange again but you could use o2, for example as far as i know tracing phones is possible, but i believe it can only be done via the IMEI of the phone, however chances are they will not bother it is also possible to change an IMEI of a phone, but that is quite illegal, so i wouldnt recommend it so where has this hypotheitcal phone come from then hursty?!
ermmmm,he found it,(my mate) just that my mate has put his sim card in,which as i said is registered with his details, and he just wondered when he used the phone with his sim card,do the 2 items tie together,or put another way,can they know what phone is using which sim etc it was a t-mobile nokia, and now has a o2 sim btw,he is from the u.k also cough, cough hehehe and whats IMEI, he knows bugger all about phones
IMEI is your unique serial number, which belongs to the phone to find it type *#06#, do this on the main menu should be 15 digits i believe they would be able to know who is using this. however if the phone is lost, the person whom it belonged to, would need to know there own imei to block the phone. some companies keep them on record, so you dont need to remember it or write it down however seeing as you havent been blocked it looks unlikely this has occured, so be happy with your new phone i havent heard of anyone ever being traced like that in this country, the companies arent that bothered it took a while before o2 and vodafone even started blocking phones what phone is it?
is it this one? (nokia 6600) my advice is to bin the simcard that you found in it. ive done this before, then got the phone unlocked to all UK networks. works a treat.
yeah but if they wanted to trace you they still could because the IMEI is part of the phone NOT the sim, so IMEI changing would be a better option, but its illegal i do not know of anyone that finds a phone or gets caught with it so they have no chance
