I have an extra 128MB notebook memory chip that was taken from a DELL Inspiron 1100 laptop and looking to possibly install it in a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop. Do these two laptops essentially use the same type of memory chips and will the memory from the DELL work in the Compaq without any problems. Or could I possibly damage the Compaq by installing this memory that came from a DELL?

hi,no it wont damage your notebook i think it should work fine.
remeber dell and compaq they dont manufacture memory dimms the get memory exclusibly for their product and label it compaq or dell the worts that can happen is youll get a windows blue screen or no booting at all in that case take out the extra dimm and problem solve

you can also check in compaq support forum the compaq notebooks memory compatibility list.

    they have on that list:

    -infineon memory modules
    -samsumg
    -onmicron
    -kingston
    and lot more...
