The difference between DVD+R DL (double layer) and DVD-R DL (dual layer) is roughly the same as the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R. All DL burners will write to a DVD+R DL. but as of now only a handful will write to a DVD-R DL. All the brand new models will write to both, but you really need to be aware that there is a difference.

As far as the 'double layer' and the 'dual layer' terms .. Well the two formats are still basically at war and try to be different
