okay, here's the scoop. clicked on the link in the reply that you gave me, printed out web page, and dl'd all 3 required progs to convert divx to vcd (by the way, the example pop windows on the page cover up half the instructions. is that normal?). Thought i could figure out the whole process, but when i get to the part of "starting frame server", it looks like nothing is happening. I have spent the entire day trying to figure this out and am about at my wits end. what am i doing wrong? Since posting this, i went to VCDhelp.com and found excellent instructions on how to do what i need to do. All went well except for one thing: the audio is out of sync.

Do you have TMPGENC? If so it should convert it to MPEG-1 so you can burn to a VCD...What my setup is I download or create the AVI, I use TMPGENC to convert to MPEG-1, then I use Nero 5.5 to actually create a VCD. I have converted DivX sucessfully numerous times. This is the fastest (but still great quality images) way I have found. Your audio/video could be out of sync depending on the speed of your computer, your video card, or how the file was created originally. Try experimenting with TMPGENC to see if it will help you. Also be sure you have all the update DivX codecs.
