Hi I have got some DivX files, eg one with 608X272, when recoding this to a normal DVD what do I choose?

I have DVDSanta to convert and it has a 4:3 TV, or a 16:9 widescreen option.

    Widescreen is......1.77
    TV 4:3.....is......1.33

the above file is..2.23 so what would I choose? 4:3 or 16:9 to encode to, also other files I have are other weird aspect ratios please help

I would load the file with VirtualDub, add the Resize filter (Video__Filters__Add) and do:

    Frame width = 608
    Frame Height = 272
    Filter Mode = Lanczos3
and then check 'Expand Frame and Litterbox image' turning the video to be:
    Frame width = 608
    Frame Height = 342 ( 608 = 16/9 * 342)

Then starting the frameserver (File___Stert Frameserver; if you don't have the frameserving installed double click on the auxsetup.exe file in VirtualDub's directory).

Now the 'input AVI' (the movie.vdr frameserving file) is 16:9 and you won't have to do anything more than making a 16:9 DVD.

Probably the encoder would have done the resizing alone, but this way you mustn't worry about the aspect ratio.

Wow thanks for the reply!! but this is all a bot confusing to me sorry, I am not a video expert, prob you guessed by me using DVDsanta.

I prefer easy all in one methods.
So what you are saying is it is a 16:9 video? and DVDsanta will recode to this?

I am sorry I dont understand all the maths etc

thanks for helping so far, another movie I have is 640X240 so what is this?

    cheers
    Andy

    Hi Aldaco!
    Yes.
    16:9 is a popular aspect ratio = 1.85:1
AVIs might be all kinds of aspect-ratio - but Santa has built-in templates, and apparently this would be the most appropriate one...
Yeah right, you need to purchase the DVD then...
    Regards
