Hi there. Hope this is the right forum. I have some avi files where the aspect ratio is wrong when played. A search on the net came up with MPEG4Modifier as the answer but I can't find any help or instructions as to hwo to use it. No matter what O do with it, when I re-save the avi and play it the aspect ratio is still wrong. It is also wrong in the same way when I run it through Convertxto dvd. Any help would be appreciated.
I assume you mean the aspect ratio is 4:3 or 16:9 and you want to change it with MPEG4MODIFIER? All I did was browse to the avi file and click the button under "Display AR:" Then "Save.." Check the files with 'Gspot' to see if they are in fact divx or xvid avi files.
Hi attar. The AVI files are "tall and thin", if you know what I mean, like stretched vertically. Whatever I do with MPEG4Modifier they stay the same. Gspot says: [USER] DivX503b959p
Have a look at this thread. It uses virtual dub to resize video that may have been created with a built in problem. http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40279
Well I downloaded DivX codecs and then Virtualdub did recognise the video. But when I change the aspect ratio as that thread suggests the result has lost all resolution.
Well this is odd. The original avi is 699MB but when I save the altered version it comes out as nearly 18GB with the aspect ratio the same as the original but much reduced quality.
Ignore that. It seems to be doing the job because when I preview the changed video in Virtualdub it looks fine, right aspect ratio and quality looking the same as the original. But how on earth do I get it to save as an avi file the same size as the original instead of this enormous size? It got to 12.8GB before I ran out of space on the partition I'm using and that looked to be only about 50% of the complete file.
Before you save it are you clicking 'Video' -> 'Compression' and then selecting a DIVX compressor ?Divx..fast??? Also, maybe the Audio may have to be 'full processing'
Sorry attar, that cures the file size problem but the resulting video is terrible quality (loads of pixelation) and the audio is way put of sync. I used the DivX 6.5.1 Codec by the way.
I would be ready to go out and buy the video at this stage I'm out of suggestions except for the Divx forum at afterdawn or the VDub support forum. http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/41 http://forums.virtualdub.org/
I'll try those links. Thanks for your help attar. At least I know more now than when I started this thread
