This is my 1st post so Hi, and please be gentle!

To cut a long story short..
Chipset fan packed up so replaced. Since replacing, my pc dont think it has a sound card, well no audio device.

Ive uninstalled and reinstalled the ac97 drivers, and still no joy. Audio is on in bios. Any other suggestions?

    Many thanks

It's not unknown for the sound chipset to actually die on these boards.

Yours sounds more like a driver problem.. They can be very specific as ac97 is a generic label for something like 20 different chipsets.. Find the right driver by googling the make and revision of your mobo... Just a thought.. yellow marks in device manager shows the drivers aren't installed. If xp's stupid hardware wizard got in the way it always seems to block the device driver installation.. gnash gnash.. I hate windows. Try "update driver" in device manager.

I bet puppy and slax would play sound no problem.

    Thanks for your reply.
    A quick update..
This morning when i booted the pc, the speaker icon was in the sys tray. I opened it and clicked properties and said that Realtek ac97 sound device available. When i tried to play music through foobar tho, the pc blue screened and i had to reset. Once it booted again.. no audio device? Nightmare!
