    System info:

    Asus M3N-HT Deluxe Mempipe
    AMD Phenom 9850 Quad core
    Crucial DDR2 1066 x2
    Geforce 8500 GT PCI-E
    Multi USB
    Soundblaster PCI Card
    1050w PSU
IDE HDD x2 (1 running win xp other storage)
    SATA HDD x1 (storage)
    SATA DVD-RW x2

    Hi guys,

I recently put together the above system and had the power on/off issue with this mobo and AMD 9850 cpu. Fixed this with a CMOS clearance and BIOS flash to 1003.

However now, BIOS wont detect either of the IDE HDD I have (so cant get into windows) or the SATA HDD either. It DOES however detect the 2 SATA DVD drives (which I believe are on SATA 1 and 2)

I have no experience in setting up a SATA Array if this is the problem. I'm also not sure if the board comes pre-installed with the drivers needed for BIOS to pick up the IDE drives. IF not, how do I load the drivers from the mobo CD?

I've also heard that its easier to have to OS on SATA HDD and have the 2 IDE drives for storage due to boot-up issues. Can anyone confirm this? Or can I stick to having XP on IDE HDD1 and having IDE HDD 2 for stage as well as the SATA HDD for storage?

    Any help appriciated...

Heres what you need to know about running Sata and IDE in the same system.

Your OS needs to be on the fast HDD that being the SATA, and you can run both types in the same system, but understand that the IDE WILL SLOW DOWN THE SATA HDD during seek times...

you need to just replace all IDE and make them SATA, also sense you have SATA burners....make the HDD SATA0

well i dont want to replace any hard drives unnecessarily. Even if what you are saying is true, why doesn't BIOS detect the IDE?

send the board back for replacement & don't mention the bios update.

so am I to assume it should auto=detect the IDE drives with my current configuration?

Here is what the asus support team emailed me:

"For your problem, please correctly configure the Primary IDE Master and Primary IDE Slave.Change a SATA port and test".

    No joy with that!

default your bios settings as it should auto detect an ide drive. does not need drivers for ide drives. try the ide drive as master, slave then cable select to see if detects drive then. change the ide & sata cables if possible. use the sata cable to rom drive for use on sata hd as rom drive is seen by bios. get drives seen in bios before worrying about windows.

if bought board at local computer store then see if they can get it to work properly, otherwise rma the board for a working one.
