    Hi everyone,

My sound was slightly distorted, (my speakers are probably broke) so I tried automatically updating the drivers through Windows Vista... installed, told me to restart... it then said my audio hardware configuration had changed and I needed to reinstall Soundmax. No sound.

I really have no idea what I'm doing. I am hopeless at this kind of thing. What's really annoying is that for some reason, my System Restore has been failing to make auto backups so I'm totally screwed.

I know nothing when it comes to motherboards and sound drivers etc., but after some mad scrambling I found out I have to download them from http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us but I can't find the drivers anywhere! They're probably there somewhere but I don't know how to find them.

If anyone could help me I'd be so grateful. Here's some random system info that might be helpful, tell me if there's anything else you'd need to know.

    Windows Vista
Soundcard: Analog Devices Integrated HD Audio card
    Asus M2N-MX
    PCI-E
    Custom built PC

Here's an update. I tried uninstalling the Soundmax drivers and reinstalling them from a drivers CD that came with my PC. Still didn't work. But the device, which had disappeared from the Sounds settings, had reappeared. So I tried rolling back the driver. It's now disappeared again and I still have no sound.

Ugh, please if someone could help me undo this mess I'd be so happy.
