Hi, New to this forum...but not to computing...hope to get some help with this one. Have been using Nero 7.10 for a few months now with my old 4x DVD burner without any issues. Decided to buy a new LG GSA-H55L drive to replace the old one. Was able to burn a DVD-R DL and a CD-ROM right away, but when I tried a DVD+R or DVD-R I received the same behavior: the 'lead-in' part would occur fine...then everything stalls! No data is written. After letting it sit for a while I would "Abort" the burn...at which point it would close the session...and disk...essentially making a coaster! I've made over 10 coasters now and am getting a bit frustrated! So far I've tried: - Uninstalling Nero...using the Nero General Clean tool and reinstall Nero - Apply Windows SP2 (yes...I was still running SP1) - Uninstall the IDE controller entries from Device Manager and reinstall them - Tried a different IDE cable - Tried different media brands (the DVD-R's were Maxell...the DVD+R's are Memorex) - Booted the system off of the Ultimate Boot Disk and was able to burn to the DVD-R & DVD+R media fine - Tried 4x, 8x, 12x, and 16x burn speeds What's left...other than re-installing Windows? My Nero log and DVDInfoPro info is below. Please help! My log shows the version and location of the Nero ASPI. Perhaps it's just the different versions, but run the Nero Info tool, click on ASPI and check that the Nero ASPI is installed and working. Your log. My log. Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 2004-11-02 13:54:32 NT-SPTI used Nero API version: 7.5.1.1
Yes...I thought the missing ASPI info was kind of strange. But for some reason the Nero InfoTool v4 that comes with Nero 7.10 does not have an ASPI tab anymore. I double checked my ASPI with the Adaptec ASPICHK.EXE program....and it said everything was fine there. I even did a 'Kill ASPI'...rebooted....'Install ASPI'....another reboot...(both from the Force ASPI v1.7). Didn't fix the problem. I did some Google searches for "wnaspi32.dll" and "nero" and found some interesting info on these pages: http://aspi.radified.com/aspi_layer.htm http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/ftopic175927.html So perhaps my issue is the ASPI driver installed by Force ASPI might be conflicting with Nero. So next I'll try doing a Kill ASPI...reboot...and see if I can burn a DVD. Wish me luck!
Well I renamed Nero ASPI and it didn't seem to miss it. I burned a DVD and the log just had a blank entry.
Well...I tried the Kill ASPI thing and did the reboot...didn't help...created another coaster. To test the hardware I created a SLAX Linux Live CD and was able to burn a DVD+R using K3B...so it can't be a hardware thing...can it? Oh...forgot to mention...I am able to burn a DVD+RW fine... Anyone have an idea what to try next?
