hi caza, Are you using the motherboard you have now? If so what socket is it? If you can I would jump to a athlon 64 as the performance boost would be much greater! than either of those. It really depends on your budget and what you would like to do with your new computer.

all semprons athlons ect are socket A and amd64 are either 754s or 939s so no this is not posible would need a new motherboard if u was going to make the jump.

yea I know, but if he new the performance increase's, and all the benefits of a 64 he might throw in a cheap new motherboard instead of staying with what he has.

if it were me, i'd go with the athlon and overclock. but it's not much of a boost...could you go for anything more powerful?

I have a Sempron 3000+ and an Athlon XP2800. I found the Sempron much easier to OC which I have set at 200FSB@2400Ghz. I could not do that with the XP2800. But, I think it's time to move on to an Athlon 64 for me anyway. Which MOBO would someone recommend for Athlon 64 754?

you're motherboard manual should tell your or at least give you a good idea of the most extreme processor it can handle.

it says "Athlon XP 3000+ or Higher". Is that the most powerful socket A on the market?
