Ok, I'm about at my wit's end with this problem here goes. I do not like the catalyst control center, it's cumbersome, hard to navigate, and not very functional. Therefore, my solution is to install the ati control panel. In catalyst control panel (latest version) my TV out is detected, but no video will play on it, I get a black screen where the video should be on the TV, but it plays on the monitor. This did not happen with the old version of ati control panel I had, so I downloaded ATI control panel but now it won't detect my TV. Before on my other computer (unfortunately down for the time due to a failing mobo) there was a "force tv detection option, but it is not there on this version I have. Can someone PLEASE help me find the version with the "force tv detection" option?
In case it's needed here's what I have: Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9550 agp8x. Windows XP Pro SP2. Tv connected thru S-Video out on card into RF Modulator (yes I have an old tv, but it's worked JUST FINE for watching videos this way before so please no comments about hooking a computer up to an old tv) If there are any other questions anyone needs answered to help me with this please ask. Again, thanks for any help I can get.

Yeah the ATI software is outrageous, its put me off ever buying ATI again but i suppose thats neither here nor there.

If this was your problem its easily answered, the ATI software hides menus everywhere. This is to do with 'Display Mapping' and having to swap it between the two devices (allowing one to use video at a time) when needed.

To find that menu you need to click the Advanced View and work from there. The 'force' function is also on the menu.

It also seems my tv out only works when the TV is the primary device and the monitor is secondary. It also wouldnt work with one scart connection but did with the other. It also appears in black and white when i go through s-video.

Basically its just hit and miss. Good luck.

When I tried the swap display mapping option in catalyst it ended up putting black boxes on both screens, so video was viewable on neither. I finally found what I needed in the form of the v 5.5 driver and 5.5 control panel. What I had to do was install the catalyst 5.5 driver only package THEN install the 5.5 control panel only package, THEN update my drivers to the current driver version (sans catalyst control center). Needless to say it was a pain, that does bring to mind an interesting question though, with an NVIDIA card that has TV-Out can you get it to FULLY duplicate the display from the monitor to the tv (including video output so you don't have a black box on one and video on the other)?

You can get video on both screens with ATI if you goto Catalyst Control then Advanced view (if not already in it) then click Video then Theater Mode submenu. In there you can choose the 3 different modes including having full video on both devices.

As a side note though, your video card is gonna have to be good one, displaying video on 2 screens uses alot of processing power and will not produce as good a result as just the one device.

    Hi Guys,

Seems you are having no trouble at all in detecting the tv.
But since i formatted my whole pc the control center doesn't detect the tv anymore. when I force the detection the tv-icon comes up but no visuals..
Before the formatation i used an earlier version of the center and there were no problems at all. But reinstalling older versions doesn't fix the problem anymore.

    Any ideas??

I couldn't get the detection to work right either, mine's set up like this (using ati control panel NOT CATALYST).

    -EDIT-
Also for me installing older versions didn't work at first. I had to uninstall the drivers and software, install the old drivers, install the old software, test to make sure it was working (did that multiple times to find the right software and driver combo) and then update to the new drivers (driver only package for dialup)

    Hi,

I don't seem to be able to find the older driver versions anymore.
Could you tell me yours so i can make a more specific search.

Your version is the one I want, basic and easy.
