Yes lurkers! We know you're out there, especially some of ye older members. Just a week or so ago I saw Locoeng browsing the New Posts. It makes one wonder just how many other old members drop in for glance, but never stop to say hi. Many have probably chosen in preferences to deselect "Show your online status" to hide their lurker activity. I used to do a little lurking myself, but then I realized that if I never dropped in, who would be here to irritate ddp? Or is that dpd, pdp, or ppd? So come on old members, or at least those of you who are still alive, drop in and say hi.
don't remember it smelling like crispy bacon when I suffered almost 3rd degree burns to my right hand working on a homemade rocket engine about 46yrs ago.
didn't need to smoke it as I smoked the room I was in when the gun powder in the open top box flared up under my hand,
I also tried to make homemade rockets as a kid. Did you mix your own gun powder? I did when I was a kid, and long before I decided to go with sodium nitrate. I think I'm a few years older than you, but when I was a kid sulfur and saltpeter were easily purchased in a drug store, and making charcoal out of wood was easy, and so we have black powder. From there I went to potassium nitrate which I purchased from kids who borrowed it from a local high school. I failed in all of my attempts to build a rocket. I guess my heart just wasn't in it. From there I decided that maybe a glider might be more interesting. So I carefully built a monstrosity out of shaved and carefully bent tree limbs and canvas. I managed to assemble a surprisingly strong and large wing. I then decided that I would need to launch it from a high elevation. I'm probably only alive today because my mother stopped me from taking it to the top of a local feed mill tower and jumping off. Sorry, but now you're all stuck with me. That being said, everyone from Ontario set on fire would smell like bacon, and aren't you from Ontario ppd?
