This is what I want to do. Every year I make a holiday cd's 4 loved ones. This year I wood like to make them cd's of various songs, but add some commentary 2 each song. Basically, u will b able 2 hear my voice while songs r playing. Is there software out there 4 the ave joe 2 make this possible? Thanx.
well if you want to do it as cheaply as possible, you could use Audacity, which is a free audio editor. Haven't used it (I'm a Pro Tools new myself) but other people here have said it works decent for being free. you should be able to record your voice then overlay it with an audio track. keep in mind the quality of your voice is only going to be so-so if you plan to use the mic in on your sound card coupled with a cheap computer microphone...
Well, I wood like sumthing that works good. I don't want 2 have 2 mortage the house, but I mite b able 2 spend a few bucks. Pro tools is the way 2 go huh? What about the equip.? I have planatronics headsets, not new but not old. 2 basic 4 good quality?
well Pro Tools is probably a bit overkill for what you want to do. Its the industry standard for recording, editing, and mixing for both film and TV industry...although you can get a basic setup for under $500. Pro Tools uses its own proprietary hardware as well. I'd recommend try recording with the basic free software, and if it doesn't suit your needs you can always invest in something like Adobe Audition, which is a decent multi track editor for around $100 I'm not really sure the quality of computer headsets, but for spoken voice it would probably come out decent. It will also depend greatly on the quality of your soundcard, and be sure to record at CD quality (44100 Hz, 16 bits)
no problem, good luck with your project, please feel free to ask any other audio questions about it...
