Is there any way I can convert these to MP3 format or at least a format which would allow me to play it on one of my players?

I think the file is currently classified as Mpeg 1 audio Layer 2 (MP2)

    Any helpwould be appreciated.

Try to open them in a audio editor like audacity or Audition. Then try to save them as MP3.

Hermes - Many thanks for your reply. Since posting my query, I have found an audio converter program called 'Switch' which does the job which you thought Audacity might be good for.
