My PC sound card output is connected to my stereo system and my stereo pre-amplifier is broken. Do I really need my stereo pre-amplifier because I can connect my PC output directly to the power amplifier and use my sound card volume control or Winamp volume control.I only listen music via my PC (both CD & mp3).
In general, by eliminating the pre-amp, should I not get better quality music, free of any "colouring" introduced by the pre-amp (whether cheap or expensive!)?
Any comments from my audiophile friends?
    Thanks
