I stated this problem a month or so ago on the Newbies forum and got good information from the replies. However, since then I have spent many hours trying to solve this problem. Unfortunately it still persists and I am posting this to find if I can get any resolution.

I want to copy my collection of VHS tapes to DVD - no fancy menus just a quick edit to remove unwanted bits. My idea was to hook up a Lite-ON DD A100x recorder I bought to a VCR, copy the tapes to a DVD RW and then edit and re-burn on the PC to a DVD R.

My problem is the DVD's created play on other standalone players but stutter i.e. every five seconds or so the picture freezes for an instant and then carries on for five seconds then freezes etc. Flicking forward to the next chapter causes the audio and video to go out of sync. The standalone players vary in age from many years old to brand new.

Suggestions from the original post centered around media types and quality but I have now eliminated this since I can download an avi from the net, compile to vob's, create an ISO and burn it on the PC burner (Sony - i.e. re-badged Lite-on) to a DVD+R and it plays without any problem in all five DVD players I have access to. So I feel this eliminated the media and also booktype compatability issues.

If I take the DVD recorded in the standalone Lite-on recorder, rip this to the PC, edit and burn onto the same media which works ok with a download it stutters! I have tried various combinations of this.
    1. Take a straight copy the files to the hard drive, edit with VOB edit, create ISO and burn.
    2. Rip the files using Decrypter, edit, create iso, reburn.
    3. Rip the files using Decrypter, convert to AVI's, edit, re-compile to vob's, create iso and burn.

The files play OK when I'm editing them on the PC.

The same problem also occurs if the DVD is recorded directly in the Lite-on, finalised and then played in the standalone recorders.

I threatened to ditch the players which didn't play correctly but am now reluctant because there appears to be no guarantee new players will solve the problem.

I have to find some resolution to this or.... anyone want to buy a DVD Recorder Lite-on DD A100X - one careful owner!!!!!

That says the problem is with the Liteon.

I had similar symptoms with a Samsung recorder (momentary freezing at chapter points;only showed up on other players.Samsung sent me new software, but it didn't help).I cured it by returning it and buying a Panasonic DMR-ES20.

You might try importing the DVD-RW into

    http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tda20.html

    and reauthoring it.
