Is it possible to author 23.98 DVDs with programs like DVDLab Pro or any other? I have some 23.98 files, some as AVI, some as VOB, that I want to author DVDs with. I have tried conversion, both to PAL or NTSC, but there're always artifacts. As I need to add subtitles to them I need to author them. Which is the best way?
If the source has DVD resolution and audio, then DVD Flick will output a 23.97fps DVD (assuming the source fps is the same). This assumes further that 'Project Settings' => 'Video' => 'Advanced' in DVD Flick is set for 'Copy mpeg-2 streams' - else the files will be recoded.. VOB files would have to be converted to mpeg2 with 'VOB2MPG'. AVI files encoded to mpeg2. DVD Flick can add subtitles. The DVD player must output progressive video and the TV capable of using it - else 'jerky' playback is certain.
It seems I could solve this problem, due to some help from MMBForums. What I did was demux the VOB files first with PGCDemux and the convert it to 29.97 with DGPulldown. Then I loaded the new 29.97 video file and the demuxed AC3 audio file onto DVDLab-Pro and things went smoothly. The new authored DVD seems to run smoothly, both in video and audio. Let's hope this helps someone else with a similar problem. DGPulldown also seems to convert from PAL to NTSC, and was recommended for it. But I haven't yet tried it.
