Hello everyone, I am trying to author a DVD using Avi2Dvd but I have a problem. I have 10 input video files, but 2 of them are a different resolution (640x352) from the rest (624x352). For this reason, Avi2Dvd will not author a DVD from these files. What can I do about this? Is there perhaps a way of convering the two files with 640x352 resolutions to 624x352 resolutions without losing quality?
Those are some very odd resolutions you have there. They 1:1 VGA? You might be better off taking the 8(624x352) and using an Encoder to Pad the left&right sides with 8 pixs of Black Video to make them the same size as the other 2( then you could maintain the original aspect ratio without distorting image.) What is the target resolution Avi2Dvd has decided on? I don't use that prog....but NeroVision automatically selects the best "complient" DVD resolution and converts different sizes to one...
Thank you for your reply, Headborg. The majority of my videos (I am planning to make a number of DVDs) are 624x352, but a few are of various (though similar) resolutions: 640x352, 640x368, 624x336 and 608x336. It would be ideal to have these few videos of various resolutions converted to 624x352, but if that will distort the quality, then I would rather pad them all with black pixels to the highest resolution (640x368 I guess). What software do you use to do this padding? You mention using an encoder, but I am very inexperienced with videos (this is the first time I am trying to author a DVD) and I don't know much about encoders so if you know of a specific software that does this, it would be greatly appreciated. Oh, my videos are AVI files compressed with XviD, if that makes a difference. Thank you in advance for your help.
Tmpgenc 2.5 plus is a nice user friendly Mpeg encoder, here's two screenshots from this progrm. This first is the settings, under Advanced Video Arrange Method Now, the video in the above pic is: 1/4 D1 but I'm just using it as an example of how you can maintain a 1:1 VGA aspect ratio INSIDE a NTSC MPEG complient framesize. Your video is already 600+ wide, so you will need to encode it to the next larger DVD complient size which is 720x480(NTSC) or 720x576(PAL) depending on if you live In the U.S. or in PAL country. But, this way...you arnt distorting or blowing up your video(just framing it) When done correctly it should look something like this: But, once you've encoded those .avi to .mpg, you'll need a different Authoring program to author the DVD as you will no longer have an .avi. Before doing this type of encoding, I'd suggest trying NeroVision or the wonderful, highly recommended ConvertXtoDVD first.
