-i been ripping dvd movies into xvid avi's for a while now by following the guides on this sites. i either use auto gk or go the long route with virtual dub. but for the last month neither would work. -With autogk i'll get everything all set up then start the job. then everything seems cool then it says job done only after 10 minutes with the exception "avi could not be open" and no avi file was created. -with virtual dub it always crash i tried a bunch of different movies. it always says this "Crash reason: Access Violation Crash context: An out-of-bounds memory access (access violation) occurred in module 'xvidcore'... ...while compressing frame 36995 from 01f40020 to 07780020 using codec "XviD MPEG-4 Codec" (VideoSequenceCompressor.cpp:618)... ...while running thread "Processing" (thread.cpp:150)." does anybody have any idea
That's harsh Merrill, you could be in 'codec hell', LoL :^) Something fooked up, could be your WinXP install. Try to tidy up; uninstall all codecs (XviD/FFDShow/DivX - especially DivX ;^) Reboot. Tune-up Windows; running good? Reboot. Do Disk Check for all drives, especially NTFS should be done at least once/month. (Requires reboot.) Lots of memory? If dual-channel (128-bit) are your timings nice & loose ie. SPD? Tune, disinfect & defrag your PC, then install this XviD only: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/xvid.cfm Honestly if you can't sort it out you may need to reinstall OS, drastic but works, usually needs doing, will solve all sorts of small annoyances too... Note: should have 2 NTFS harddisks for proper job (each on their own controller), one reads VOBs, other writes AVI. Big timesaver, not to mention heat & HD wear & tear ;^) Harddisks are inexpensive. Do you have SerialATA controllers? Good luck to you - let us know how you get along, Regards
