I made my own from an 1/8" AV (triple banded male) and 3 RCA plugs connected by insulated copper wire. Works great, and, if (like me)you have all the parts at home, it's FREE!!! Even in the worst case I can't imagine that the parts would cost more that $8 at a shack style electronics store.Or if you have an old AV cable from a still or video camera lying around, there you go.Not that I would question the quality and reliability of the Apple original, in the long term, it is far superior.

I have the Apple AV Connector and than I later bought the iPod Universal Dock for $30 becuz it wuz $10 less (Great Price). Than I already owned an S- Video Cable and temporarily I use computer speakers (S-Video does only picture). The quality of the Video seems better on a TV but u have to use external speakers to get sound.

You can use any A/V cable used with a video camera. Only thing is that the red jack is video and the yellow jack is audio... otherwise works fine and costs half of what apple is asking.

Under Videos/Video Settings turn the TV Out to On and make sure you have your TV signal set to the correct value, NTSC for the US, PAL for most everywhere else.

THe only other thing I can think of is you don't have your TV set for the correct inputs.

i think i heard that apple changed the video input to red instead of yellow so that should solve one of your problems.

What's cheap about the Apple connectors? You can buy gold tipped connectors for half the price. Just reverse red and yellow when plugging in.

Sticking with apple products ensures compatability, but it doesn't ensure quality.

Cheaper accessories do a more than adequate job. Why spend so much on things like AV cables?
