does anybody have any tips, etc on how I can create a DVD with a few different AVI files. for example, i have a collection of downloaded movies, each one is a separate AVI. so i could burn these as individ. VCDs but i want to put 5 or 6 on one DVD that i can play on any DVD player. which softwares would i use for this kind of stuff, and is there any guides on this site about this kind of stuff?

Easiest/cheapest thing to try first is DivxToDVD free version.
Just select all the input files at once. Then on the line showing the input files you can cut and paste if you need a particular order of files. Each .avi will become a title on the DVD.

the only thing thats sux about using the divxtodvd when your using the free trial, when you burn it on a dvd and you watch it on your stand alone player,on the top of the screen it says"trial version divxtodvd" its annoying,i tried to figure out how to remove it and i cant figure it out.

Or you could get a DVD home player that supports DivX, then just put the AVI's onto one DVD without any converting...
