I'm using the latest nero burning software and I burn all the time to dvd-r's with no problem. But when I am trying to burn an avi/divx movie
Nero converts it for me so it will burn onto a dvd. My problem is when the burn is almost complete I get an error and my dvd-r is garbage. The only way I can get it to work without any errors is when I burn it to a DVD-RW.

    Help

can you post the error log? That will give us much more info to go by. Usually located in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log. Just remember to edit out the serial number.

lol, it's ok, those logs are saved automatically. It usually strings together all your burns in the same log, with the latest burns being at the bottom. Try to just get the one that gives you errors. Usually starts with your operating system, right after that or before (I can't remember which right now) is your serial number. Don't include that in your post.

You are using an outdated version of Nero. You have 6.6.0.8 and I know they're up to 6.6.0.13 and possible 6.6.0.14. That may be the issue, may not be the issue, but you should upgrade either way.
I have never seen the ASPI say Ver=?.?.?.?, sounds kinda fishy to me so I'd check into that. Here's an article explaining ASPI and giving a link to ASPI update:

[bold]<11>What is ASPI and do I need it?
The term 'ASPI' is an acronym that stands for: Advanced SCSI Programming Interface. All the following terms are synonymous: ASPI layer, ASPI drivers, ASPI interface. The term 'SCSI' [scuzzy] is an acronym that stands for Small Computer Systems Interface. An ASPI layer consists of four files that 'lie between' various programs [software] and certain devices, such as CD/DVD-ROM drives and CD/DVD burners/writers [hardware]. Software programs such as CD digital audio extractors [commonly known as 'Rippers'] and CD-writing utilities such as CDRWin use/require ASPI drivers to 'communicate with' SCSI devices. Many people don't realize however, that the files contained in an ASPI layer are also used in systems that *don't* contain a SCSI adapter, or SCSI devices .. for things such as ripping CD audio and burning CD/DVDs.
    ASPI DOWNLOAD http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...duct/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe&sess=no
    [/bold]

Now I noticed you have DMA off for your optical drives except your DVD burner. Probably not the issue here either, but maybe you should get those into DMA mode sometime soon.
Go into Device Manager (provided you're using Windows XP) and uninstall these drives. Then restart your computer, let Windows find and install them and check the DMA to make sure it's not in PIO mode. PIO is not good. If they still are in PIO mode, check your BIOS to see if DMA is enabled on all your IDE channels.
This usually means that your burner doesn't want to get along with your media. The ASPI update may fix that, also the Nero update may help out with that. It appears that your firmware is up to date, you are using BS0S and according to this page (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1934) that is current.

Now I see what I think is probably the main source of problems. You have InCD installed don't you.
This is packet writing software that allows you to copy and paste stuff directly to the drive and it will burn as you go along. Sounds great right? Wrong! This software constantly accesses your drive, which you don't want happening when you're trying to burn something. Uninstall that first and see where that takes you. If that doesn't help you out, check into the other things I mentioned, although it wouldn't hurt to check into those things as well.

Your memory in use should only linger around 50% or so, this is kind of high so you should try to cut down on the background programs running, stuff like antivirus, any programs you don't think you'll need for this.
Now this isn't your problem here, but this could pose a problem in the future for you. Try to compress the movie to around 4300MB or so, to avoid burning to the very edge of the disc which causes problems for some people.
This means your burner doesn't like your media still. Get a program called DVD Identifier (google it, it should be your first hit) and scan one of these discs (has to be one already burned on). Then they have a link (more info I think the button says) to a website comparing media and giving you compatibility info.

Good media choices are Verbatum with the Super AZO Dye (<------Make sure it has this dye) or Taiyo Yuden if you buy online. Make sure you buy through a reputable site (if you're in the US, supermediastore.com, rima.com, meritline.com, newegg.com) because there are quite a few fakes out there. Buying from the above listed sites should keep you safe from that.

Well, sometimes you can find multiple manufacturers' media in the same batch of discs. Memorex is a prime example of this, you could very well find a handful of disc manufacturers in a 25-pack. Good idea with the RW though.

Find out who made the discs with DVD Identifier and post the results here. Then we'll take it from there.

Never used Prodisc before, heard mixed review on them. Does the DVD Identifier database say they are good?? I'd suggest buying a few Verbatim DataLifePlus with the Super AZO Dye (should say it right on the box) and give those a shot.

You're still getting this so apparently your burner still doesn't like your media. Seems the burner is extremely picky. Unless there's something I'm just not thinking of that would give you this key medium error. Maybe a dirty drive, maybe the drive's going bad, but that's hardly ever the case unless you're up past 2000 burns or so. I'd shoot a PM over to ccampbell, he's the Nero guy here and give him a link to this thread and explain your problem cause I'm out of ideas.

    Hi Aussieoak,

Looks like Squizzle has been properly diagnozing the issue. The bottome line is that the Recorder is not liking the media.

Have you tried to see if you can 'work around' this issue? What I mean is, first write it to the Hard Drive as a Video_TS folder. Make sure it plays back fine from your Hard Drive.

Then use Nero Burning ROM's DVD-Video Option to load the Video_TS folder and burn to DVD.

This way we rule out the NeroVision API as a possible issue, which I do not believe is the issue, but best to be sure. :)

Also, you can use a third party software to burn the Video_TS file to DVD-R If you strongly suspect the issue is with our software, not the recorder and the media. This will also help isolate the issue.

    Regards,

I have tried burning to the hard drive as a video ts also. I have tried mant types of media also. It worked perfect before with the same media. I am convinced now its my burner. It made a clunking sound today ans spit out my disk when I tried to erase a dvd-rw. Its still under warranty so I'm taking it in. One this I remembered is that the last time I burned some mp3's on a cd-r the burner was spinning extremely fast at the lead-out phase and wouldn't finish. I had to reboot to get the disk out. Then I started having problems. I assume it damagaged my burner.

    Thanks for the help
