I have been avi converting for about two weeks now but I am having a slight problem with the quailty of things. Scenes in the film that are light are fine and are of very good quailty. But on real dark scenes pixels on the picture start showing and the qauilty drops. Here are the specs:

    Res: 576 * 240 when coverting this is 720*576
Video fps: 23 im converting to pal
    Audio: mpeg - layer 3

Im using convertx2dvd I have also tried dvd santa. I am now trying tmpenc3xp its stating it will take 8hrs to convert is this two long? The others would normal take around 2hrs. Please also not that the avi file has good qaulity so this is lost when converting.

I use NeroVision Express to convert my avi/mpeg to DVD. I have been using it for years and see no real loss of quality. There is a "more" option in NeroVision that will allow you to change the bit/rate of the file to utilize the full space of the DVD. You can also create chapters, menus, etc. Fairly easy to use. The process usually takes anywhere from 5-7 hours depending on the size of the disc being created. You can have the output sent directly to the DVD drive or saved to the hard drive as a Video_Ts folder which can be burnt using Nero. Be sure when doing converting files, to close programs that are running in the background to ensure proper video/audio sync. You may also need codecs depending on the file, but usually not required. Hope this helps.
