AVI probs...

    Sometimes when i get avi files and convet to mpeg 2 it literally blows up to 4 times as big as the original was???

    I dont know why it does that.... I am currently making the first season of prison break on dvd and have it in mpeg2 ready to convert to dvd and burn, but in the mpeg 2 form its 22 gigs.....

    I dont know if i do convert to dvd form it will get small enough to fit on a 8.5 dl dvd... so i need help in why it is getting so big... thanks in advanced.

    Also i used CucuSoft AVI to VCD DVD MPEG Creator Pro to convert avi video files to mpeg 2, and i am using TMPGEnc DVD Author 2.0 to convert to dvd form and burn.

    Avi is just a container holding the compressed video. The conversion process is actually decompressing it. There is no way to put 22G on 1 disk, maybe 7-8 good quality 1 hour episodes on a DL disk which actually only holds 7.95G.

    Damn.... I really wanted to put the 22 episodes all on one dvd.

    Is there anyway to maybe make it smaller(without drastically effecting the quality, which is [bold]really[/bold] good), or would you know why when i convert avi to mpeg2 it quadruples the size??!? This sometimes happens, but not usually.

    I know of no way to make 22G fit on 1 DL DVD and maintain any kind of quality. Maybe, burn as data before they are converted, assuming they are around 350 MB. I am not familar with converting to MPEG-2 but I would guess that my explanation, above, holds true.

    Ya i've have done this before, but what do you mean make into data? I want it video files playable on dvd players. And when i d/led the episodes, each were around 350 mb(which all totaled 7.5 gigs).

    I don't want to fit the all the 22 gigs on the DL dvd; i want to know of a program to compress it to fit on DL dvd wihtout losing to much of the quality.

    And i dont know if anyone else knows why when i convert AVI to MPEG2 it quadruples the size?

    A program like Nero Express will burn the files as data to view on your pc but unless you have a player capable of playing DIVX (I think), they won't play on your standalone. As for compressing your files I don't use it but look into DVD Shrink.
