    Hi.

What software are you using? If you have a folder of video files (vob files) from the conversion, you'll need to use a program like Nero or ImgBurn to burn the disk. If you have an ISO image file from the conversion, either ImgBurn or Nero will work as well. For dual layer media I would use ImgBurn instead of Nero.

You could also use DVD Shrink to shrink the files to fit on a single layer disk as well.

Thanks so much for helping me..I have dvdshrink and I have nero 6.3. I got a great deal on some dvd-9's. 25 for $5.01. So I would like to put the files on the disk. I am not familiar with the other program. I think the problem im having is either I am using a program that willnot allow me to burn onto a dvd-9 or I have the configuration set-up incorrectly. Is there a step by step process to do this? Also, did i at least start the process off correctly by converting the avi files to vob files?

Yes VOB files are DVD compliant.

Nero 6.3 won't burn a dual layer disk iirc.

    Download and use ImgBurn.

The first guide I kinked above will show you the process.

If by AVI you are referring to Xvid/Divx nothing will be gained by going DL. Lower the bitrate in your converting program till it fits on a DVD5.

my advice would be to stop messing around with dual layer's for a avi file.
use VSO's conertXtodvd, use the settings to acheive the output size to 4300mb

but if you have them, and want to use them, then good luck

    Hello.

I've asked several times now if you used ImgBurn in the Build mode to create an ISO image file. That has to be accomplished first before the image file can be burned to disk. You'll have to specify the layer break as indicated in the linked guide.

What program did you use to convert the avi?

See if you can import the converted AVI into DVD Shrink. If you cannot, the file has problems. If you can, try shrinking it to fit a DVD5 and then burn.

ConvertXtoDVD is probably the best converter around. It's at the top of my list for sure. It watermarks in the free trial version but at least you'll know if the original source file is corrupt or not.

As MysticE pointed out, AVIs are fairly low in quality to begin with so shrinking to fit a DVD5 might not make a lot of difference in the resulting quality.

In converting Xvid/Divx to DVD usually tripling (3X) the original bitrate will max out the quality. Seeing as most hover around 1000 kb/s, a DVD5 will suffice.

Yes, I used the Imgburn to build first, just as the link you sent me said to do. The layer break section of mine didnt have the same in fo in the slip. It suggested to use the file that says No in the slip, but all of mine said Yes in the slip. I dont know if that matters, but I followed it step by step, then I got the above error

    Hi again.

I'm not sure what's going on. Have you tried DVD Shrink to see if it can process the image file? If it can, there would seem to be a problem with your burner, the media, and ImgBurn. As long as you select one of the points offered by ImgBurn, you should be OK. The SLIP Yes or No tries to find a spot where the break is less noticeable.

Have you ever successfully burned a DL disk with your burner before? It should be a NEC 3500 underneath the MadDog label IIRC.

What brand of DL media are you using? Soem are better than others. That made by Verbatim is best by far.

Try the trial version of ConvertX and see if it generates a usable output.

I'm not familiar with the Office Max DL media. That may be the problem. You may want to try to backup a commercial DL DVD with your burner to see if it will actually burn a DL disk successfully. If you use DVD Decrypter with AnyDVD running in the background you should be able to get a backup with the same layer breaks as the original.

Use DVD D in ISO Read Mode to rip the ISO to your HDD and then select the companion MDS file to the ripped ISO file with DVD D in ISO Write Mode and burn.
