Hi, and thanks in advance for any help! I have been trying to use WINDVD and also Windows Movie Maker to transfer my HC42 MiniDVs to DVD. I am using a firewire and capturing in AVI in 16:9, authoring the video, and burning to DVD. The problem I am running into is a signifacant quality loss due to frame rate drop, it is no where near as smooth and it is much more grainy then the MiniDVs themselves. I am very frustrated as I have been trying to find out what I can do to correct this and can't find any help.

You are making the capture in AVI and then converting to MPEG2 DVD?
It's too bad you couldn't capture in DVD-format right from the start - even NeroVision Express will do that.
The key is your capture; the resulting DVD (which has a much more generous bitrate) will be only as good as the quality of the capture.

Technically its a transfer as the miniDV format is allready in avi, so there should be no loss in quallity from tape to hard drive. Win DVD and Win Movie Maker do the mpeg conversion for me, is there a better program (free or cheap) that I should be using to author the movies and finish the burn? Or is there some settings that I am missing that would up the quality? Thanks for any advice.
