Hello!! Got a problem with nero. Trying to convert an avi. file to a dvd file to play with my dvd player in my living room. Did the usual thing(add file, chapters, etc.)When Nero is transcoding, it will stop/freeze about 1 hour into the task!!!! Left it for about 4 hours thinking that i would work it out. Noo!! It didn't. I had to use task manager to end program!!! Tried to burn file to my harddrive but same problem. So, i read thru the forum trying to find answers(Excellent information by the way!!!)to my problem. I deleted Nero from my computer. Did a registry clean with spybot. Next i reinstalled Nero fresh(left INCD out!!). Went to the Nero website to update and patch. Tried it again and same problem!!!!! If the movie has a glitch(reviewed the movie to where nero had freezed and there was about a second or two of just a white screen then the movie would continue)would nero still transcode the file? Next i downloaded Divx to DVD,installed and transcoded to DVD. It did a great job except the audio was out of synch!!! Then i tried WinAVI video converter(the new version7). It also did a great job except there was a watermark in the middle of the screen thru the whole movie. Also it wasnt as smooth(a little choppy). I dont want to buy WinAVi since i already invested in Nero. Also i cant post any logs since i had to use task manager to end the program!!!! Any help i would greatly appreciate!!!! I gave up on any .avi to mpeg2 conversions using Nero. .avi to vcd seemed to work ok for the most part but even then sometimes I'd get
audio out of sync. So now I use Nero Burning Rom to burn the disc.
    That's it.

If your .avi happens to have 29.97 or 30 framerate then you might be
able to just put it through DivxToDVD freeware and get a VIDEO_TS folder that's ready to burn. If OTOH you have sync issues you might need to use another tool or several tools and some conversion guides. Thing is when you do encoding with Nero it's sort of reading your input file type and taking a guess what to do to make it acceptable to the type of disc you are trying to burn. But it's not too big on letting [bold]you[/bold] know what it's doing!! You have much more control using encoding software and then just burn with Nero. After a while you learn a little bit and even have some fun doing it. :)

    That's just my feeling. :)

I have several DVD's on my hard drive (E:\). I bought a DVD-R to transfer them to. I have used DVD shrink, nero, DVD Decrypter, firestorm, and smartripper and for all they say that their is "no disc in drive". I don't know what to do. They work when i put in cd's. Can someone please help me. Thanks

Make sure they are DVD-R and NOT CD-R beleive me its been done, if thats not the problem your discs are bad try some Brand New Discs also do a compatablity check on google for you specific bunrner and that will tell you what discs work best for dvd burner.
