I am a newbie to this type of encoding but recently found this site. I also found the freeware prog of VSO AVItoDIVX, which I might add is one of the best. What I wanted to know is AVI is usually a compressed format (lossy) of a file (movie) so when you encode it to DVD, how does this happen?. Is there any real loss of quality as I have not really noticed a great drop in the two I have done so far. I suppose I am just after an explaination, short version, of how it works. Told u I am a newb.

    Thanks

    dvd is mpeg2 compatible format
    avi is the raw form.

To be able to play your avi in a dvd player and i dont mean a divx player, you need to convert your avi to mpeg2.Thats what divx to dvd by vso does. But your file will grow in size due to the conversion
