before converting AVI to MPEG using TMPGenc the file is only 40 mins long. But for some reason after i've encoded it it has a blank screen for approximately the same length of time. Can someone advise me please?

I think I saw a note in a guide for TMPGEnc that said sometimes you can fix a black screen by creating a .wav or .mp3 file from the .avi and inputting that as the audio file in the wizard.

I have GoldWave 4.26 so to get a .wav file I just drop an .avi file on it and select "Save As" from the file menu. Then save it as 16 bit stereo signed Wav. Then in TMGEnc when you load the video .avi file in the wizard it automatically loads the same file as the audio file. Just push the Browse button to select the Wav file as audio instead.

Anyway, the guide on www.videohelp.com claims this fix works. I haven't tried it myself. But I've used the above technique for .avi files when TMPGEnc didn't like the audio codec.
