How do I convert my AVI video file to SVCD format? I have nero but it says I need to buy a plug-in to do it which costs 20 bucks. Basically all i need to know is the best free program to use to make video files into SVCD format. Thank you.

Well SVCD Format is Basicly Mpeg-2 at 480x480 for NTSC or 480x576 for Pal with a Bitrate under 2500kbs so you can use any Mpeg-2 encoder to make SVCD Compatible Files....

The best Sort of Free Mpeg encoder I Know of is "Tmpgenc" which is free for Mpeg-1 VCD Encodeing but for Mpeg-2 encodeing it Runs out in 30 days but you can still luse it for a Month without buying it and it also has a "Wizard" that will guide you through the Process of setting up the File to be encoded to the Format you want (EG: VCD,SVCD,DVD)....

These Days you are Better off Just Burning DVD"s because they are Cheaper and The Quality is Better and you don"t have the Playback Problems that can Happen with SVCD/VCD disks....

    Cheers
