hi, i want to burn an AVI file to play on a stand alone DVD player. using nero 8, it's indicated that the file is too large - it goes into the red area - (even though it's 644 MB which is strange) - anyway I can two one of two things - use IMGBurn to wrap it in an ISO container then burn it as a DVD, or using Nero, burn it as a data CD-R which will fit and play. Is there a substantial quality loss burning as a CD data file as compared with burning as an ISO DVD?

    Thanks in advance,
    jeff

When burning AVI files, you burn them as a data disc.
Does your standalone play AVI files. If not, you will need to convert it and burn on a DVD.

I've been burning AVI as "CD Video," not Data, using Nero. What exactly then would you burn as CD Video if not AVI?
    Thanks...

Is probably VCD or SVCD, both of which are conveted to MPEG so they will play on most any DVD player. Because they are re-encoded the output file size isn't necessarily the same as the input. A lot of the newer DVD players will play DivX files directly so if your's will, burn the disk as 'data' and avoid the conversion. If it doesn't then you'll have to author and burn the file as a DVD.
