HI, I have a movie that is in .avi formatt and it is about 696mb. I wanted to put it on a dvd+r using nero startsmart. I convert all my movies to dvd using nero startsmart. Ok heres what happened, I to load it up on to nero start smart and it said: Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal DVD, but still fits onto a DVD-9 disc. You need a DVD-9 media to record your project on. Do you want to have the project quality reduced automatically so that your project will fit into the available space? If you click No, the project size will be expanded to DVD-9. Yes No I selected yes. It said: The project quality was automatically reduced to Long play (3382 kbps). OK so I went throught and created the menue like I laways do and I hit burn. So it burned over night like it al ways does but once it said it was done wich was like 8 hours later there was only 5 minets os the movie on the dvd+R disc. Do you guys think this is because it is in .avi formatt?
Nero is not that good at encoding. So if this is happening to other avis, try encode with e.g. ConvertXtoDVD which also has the ability to create menus, then burn with Nero. Good luck!
You can also try to scan that .avi file with virtualdub. Video->Scan video stream for errors. If there is some bad frames, select mask bad frames, and save .avi. Sometimes bad frames in avi file causes encoders to crash.
Sorry, didn't know it would create such a misunderstanding. 'ConvertXtoDVD' is the name of a software. *_*
