Hello, Ive been using avi2dvd to convert some avi tv shows to dvd format. I was able to squeeze 4 episodes of 24 into 1 DVD with fairly decent quality using the QuENC encoder. avi2dvd converted each episode to about 1G each, so there wasn't any compression with DVDShrink. But recently when trying to convert episodes of heroes, the files are now coming out at 2.3G each using the same process. And I can only fit 2 episodes in 1 DVD with some compression. What am I doig wrong? Here are the details of each file. 24 avi compression - xvid file size - 346MB duration - 42:35 frame rate - 23fps width/height - 624x352pixels vido data rate - 138kbps video sample size - 12bit audio bit rate - 111kbps audio format - mpeg layer-3 heores avi compression - xvid file size - 349MB duration - 42:15 frame rate - 23fps width/height - 624x352pixels vido data rate - 141kbps video sample size - 12bit audio bit rate - 131kbps audio format - mpeg layer-3 As you can see, there is not that much difference between the two avi files. Please help. Thanks
I think I found what the problem was. When choosing an encoder, I was not using VBR. I did a test and selected VBR. The output VOB file was at 1.1GB from a 346MB avi file. Video quality is not very different from CBR and with the smaller file size, I can fit 4 episodes in 1 DVD. VBR = 1.1GB vob from 346MB avi CBR = 2.4GB vob from 346MB avi *quality difference is barely noticable using VBR Is anyone using the other encoders besides the HCE that are provided with avi2dvd? I would like to know what your thoughts and results are. Thanks.
