Evening all, I have a pretty badly scratched DVD that I want to back up. Using Decrypter, it comes up with a lot of read errors (naturally). Is it possible to extract the good data from the DVD, instead of deleting whole sectors? Is there other software out there that could help? I'm pretty new at this so I've no idea if it's even possible. Any info would be gratefully received. Thanks.
Which Decrypter are you using? DVD Decrypter, that is not updated any longer, or DVDFab Decrypter? Edit: To fix typo!)
Doesn't have to be the software's fault. Dependant on the quality/strength of your drive's laser, will determine whether you can rip very scratched dvds...
Try and use the updated version of DVD FAB Decryptor. This program usually can handle scratched disks. Good luck!
Have you tried cleaning the disc w/alcohol rag then ripping with Ripit4me. Ripit4me is probably the best freeware I've found and has done some great work I've encountered on problem discs.
The clear plastic that covers the foil on the disc is pretty thick get some toothpaste right out of the tube and rub the hell out of it NOT IN CIRCLES, rub from the inside to the outside clean it with water Or buy a Disc Doctor they work pretty good too what you are trying to do is to make the surface as smooth as you can get it. You use toothpaste to clean your teeth and not damage the surface of your teeth, Same thing here
yes the toothpaste trick has always worked for me before, so try it first. if that does not work try to adjust the settings in decryptor to allow read errors. Good luck mate
