There's a bit of discrepency on this particular topic. Most newer computers with dual core processors should handle it fine.

I'm old school and personally refrain from any multitasking while i'm burning. But, that's just me. My laptop is a nice new dual core, and i still don't surf, or run other programs while i burn.

Hmm... a very general question..."Can a car go 100 mph? Well depends, what are you driving?
During burning, you need RAM available. During encoding/transcoding, your CPU is highly engaged. If you have plenty of both, if your burner has a good buffer size,I guess you would be okay surfing the net, doing other stuff. But then again, any little glitch , any interruption in information flow could cause a burn error. You get on a fancy website with animation/graphics...whatever, spikes up your RAM and if not enough, your burn could crash...Want to know for sure...try it out! Like 7thsinger says, if you're well equiped, you could venture on the wild side! Normally I can rezist 7-8 minutes without doing something else untill the burn is done.
