I'm still pretty new....but some stuff seems to defy explanation. I used DVD Shrink (beta 3.05)to analyze my DVD of "The Professionals"...the whole DVD with extras is less the 4.37GB. I wanted to back it up with the menus, minus all the extra subtitles. In the first DVD Shrink window..I unchecked all but the English subtitles and then clicked back-up (I did not choose "deep analyze" as this is an uncompressed file). DVD Shrink did it's thing and wrote the files to a directory on my HD. I used Power DVD to test the movie on my HD and it played perfectly...the menus worked, filmogrophay's played, etc. Everything functions when played off my HD. I opened Nero 6 Ultra..New compilation, UDF/ISO, no multi session, ISO tab had: "ISO Level 2 (Max 31 Chars); Format mode 1; ISO-9660; Allow path depth of more than 8 directories; Allow more than 255 characters in path; Unchecked "Joliet". UDF Tab: Physical Partition/UDF1.02, Burn tab: Write speed 2X (only choice allowed) 1 copy. Clicked NEW Added the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders..copied all the files from the temp directory on my HD to the VIDEO_TS folder. Clicked Burn DVD was created...plays fine in my Pioneer 525...menus and everything works fine...also plays perfectly on my old Apex..again..menus work fine. The DVD will not play properly on my HP 200i burner. I cannot select any chapters from the menu..it freezes when I select a scene, and when I click the play button it starts at the beginning of the DVD. The other menu features work..filmography's, trailer, etc. The scene selections will not. Also...if I use the slider to advance the movie manually..I get and error that the disk may be damaged or dirty....I cannot click ahead to the next chapters either (using the advance button on the on-screen controller in power DVD). If I let the movie play on the HP burner starting at the beginning of the movie...it plays fine to the point where the first chapter ends and the second chapter begins...it will not transition to the second chapter...it freezes there..as though the player is the standby mode waiting to have the play button clicked to resume the movie...when I click the play button..the movie starts at the beginning again. Any ideas why the files play fine on the HD (with my HP player/burner)..but when burned to the DVD..my HP cannot handle the DVD? Logically, it should play the files the same way whether on the HD or the DVD...and if all the players couldn't handle the DVD..I could understand that maybe it's a media or a burn problem...but the DVD plays perfect on my two players but not on the hardware that created it. Any ideas?
What program do you use to watch the movie? All I can think of is that you have a bad program and it locks up too much.
I'm using the Power DVD That came with the HP 200i DVD drive. It never entered my mind that it could be the software driving the HP Burner. I'm trying to find out what version of Power DVD I have...but haven't been able to loacte it yet.
just wanted to say good that yoru using dvd shrink ..but I would use nero express when doing it and just go to top drop down box and pick your burner yourburner [dvd] that opens dvd options and go to dvd - video also nero six has alot of bugs best version I have found no bugs is 5.5.10.42 i use dvd shrink and nero all the time for my movies and they work in all machines ... when you use nero express it is alot quicker and no room to mess up and quicker also I would just switch to powerdvd 5 or use another windvd .. . and see what happens questions add me as contact and shoot me message giovanni40220@msn.com also
Nero seems to work okay, as the DVD's play on my other DVD players....also..I don't have a problem if I use DVD Shrink to just back up the movie (no menus or extras). I've done that once with a larger movie and it plays fine on the burner as well as the other players in the house. It's just odd that the files play fine off the HD..but not off the DVD disk. I would think if there was a problem it would appear on both sets of files..but it's just on the DVD files (which tells me there isn't a problem with the actual DVD files). I would almost bet that if I would copy the files off of the DVD..back onto the HD..they would play fine. It almost like the DVD burner can't handle the reading and operations off the DVD..the flags that are burned in the files that redirect the laser to read other portions of the DVD..such as menu points and chapter breaks. The fact that the files play off the HD....kind of takes the laser reading and DVD burner out of the equation. It may be the actual DVD firmware (which I have upgraded with the most current available from HP) or the Power DVD program. I can't find out what version of Power DVD I'm using....I've clicked on everything I can think of in that program to see a version number..but to no avail. I went to Power DVD website and checked for patches....but without knowing what version of Power DVD I'm using...I can't tell which patch to use. The Power DVD Program came with the HP drive..so I'm sure it's pretty bare bones compared to the retail version.... The quest for answers continues.
