you have to connect the xbox to the network...in other words, the xbox has to be connected to a router or directly to the pc....why do think your line status reports No Link!? either you are not connected to the network, or your cable is bad or you have not setup the network correctly.

This is just a copy paste from another post of mine hope it helps...

I need more info. Are you using 2 nic cards? Are you using a router? if your using two nic cards then you want your first nic to be internet and second to xbox of course this is what you've done so from there you have your xbox ip 196.168.0.1 then you want your default gateway to be 196.168.0.2 both located in your xbox system setup. Now on your computer your nic w/ the xbox connected you want the ip to be 196.168.0.2 and the subnet mask to be 255.255.255.0 all in all here's a breakdown

    Xbox-
    Setup network - Yes
    Use Static IP - Yes
    IP - 196.168.0.1
    Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway - 192.168.0.2
    DNS - Leave Alone
    DNS - Leave Alone

    PC-
Nic w/ Internet connection - Locate IP Auto
    Nic 2 Xbox - IP 192.168.0.2
    Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway - Blank
    Perferred DNS - Blank
    Secondary DNS - Blank

Even if you can't get it to FTP, you should still have line status if you're using a CROSSOVER cable to do a direct connection.

Are you SURE your using a crossover cable, and that it's plugged in securely in the ports?

I am running two nic cards in my computer.. one for the internet and one for my "attempts" to connnect to my xbox.. (which I have not been able to do yet)
    my question is:

how do I know which of my NIC cards is the first one?

    thank you

Is one a removable NIC? If so, make that one the one that connects with your xbox, and edit the LAN for that NIC.

You should be able to see what card is connected to the internet if you cant you can simply go to control pannel and network devices turn off one card and see if your still on the internet if not .... and visa versa

    forget static ip

    have your xbox use dhcp

only set a static ip in the network card's tcp/ip properties on your pc, that ip being 192.168.0.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0. leave default gateway blank and then enable internet connection sharing for this connection.

connect via crossover and turn on your xbox, should be fine - will pick up an automatic ip from the nic on your pc

    enjoy

Did you change the settings on your PC to tell it what IP address to use?
