Ok so i downloaded some .mkv movies used tsmuxer. now of the 3 movies i tried 1-iron man 720p mkv worked video and audio but with green bar. 2-crank 1080p mkv NO VIDEO but audio worked? 5.1 was moved down to 4.1 for playback on ps3 and still that didn't work. 3- Matrix Revolution 1080p same as crank? why did i get video with the 720p? and not with true 1920x1080? when everyone is saying if u get a true 1280x720= 720p, and 1920x1080= 1080p u don't have to resize and therefor elimate the GREEN BAR? i used imgburn for all 3 movies with udf at 2.5.I did compare the 720p and the 1080p mkv's in media info. here is CRANK in 1080p General Complete name : C:\Crank 1080p\Crank 2006 1080p.mkv Format : Matroska File size : 7.95 GiB Duration : 1h 27mn Overall bit rate : 13.0 Mbps Encoded date : UTC 2008-09-09 18:35:25 Writing application : mkvmerge v2.3.0 ('Freak U') built on Sep 8 2008 18:32:16 Writing library : libebml v0.7.7 + libmatroska v0.8.1 Video Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L4.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames Muxing mode : Container profile=Unknown@4.1 Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 1h 27mn Bit rate : 11.8 Mbps Nominal bit rate : 12.3 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16/9 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.238 Title : h264 1920x1080 Writing library : x264 core 60 Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=7 / psy_rd=1.000000 / brdo=1 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=24 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=2 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / chroma_qp_offset=0 / threads=12 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / mbaff=0 / bframes=12 / b_pyramid=1 / b_adapt=1 / b_bias=0 / direct=1 / wpredb=1 / bime=1 / keyint=239 / keyint_min=25 / scenecut=40(pre) / rc=2pass / bitrate=12329 / ratetol=1.0 / rceq='blurCplx^(1-qComp)' / qcomp=1.00 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30 / aq=2:1.00 Language : English Audio Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Codec ID : A_AC3 Duration : 1h 27mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 640 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Title : AC3 5.1 640kbit Language : English Text Format : UTF-8 Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8 Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text Title : English Language : English General Complete name : C:\Crank 1080p\Crank 2006 1080p.track_1.264 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec File size : 7.55 GiB Video Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L4.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames Bit rate : 12.3 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16/9 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.248 Writing library : x264 core 60 Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x133 / me=umh / subme=7 / psy_rd=1.000000 / brdo=1 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=24 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=2 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / chroma_qp_offset=0 / threads=12 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / mbaff=0 / bframes=12 / b_pyramid=1 / b_adapt=1 / b_bias=0 / direct=1 / wpredb=1 / bime=1 / keyint=239 / keyint_min=25 / scenecut=40(pre) / rc=2pass / bitrate=12329 / ratetol=1.0 / rceq='blurCplx^(1-qComp)' / qcomp=1.00 / qpmin=10 / qpmax=51 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / pb_ratio=1.30 / aq=2:1.0 General Complete name : C:\Crank 1080p\Crank 2006 1080p.track_2.ac3 Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 File size : 401 MiB Duration : 1h 27mn Overall bit rate : 640 Kbps Audio Format : AC-3 Format/Info : Audio Coding 3 Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 640 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Surround: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz General Complete name : C:\Crank 1080p\Crank 2006 1080p.track_3.sup File size : 11.1 MiB I hope someone can give us an answer as i'm not the only one with this problem.
so why do we need to recode the true 1920x1080p files? i thought only if they r not true 1280x720 and 1920x1080. i tried so many times with MeGui to try to recode the iron man 720p. avisynth is installed and i make the .avs script with notepad but it won't load in MeGui. i keep getting error could not load script. also the guides show to download XolocoTuxmaster's bluray profiles and put them in MEGUI's profiles\video directory first. all i see is a all profile folder and no video profile/directories. are there any real mkv files out there that don't need to recode video or audio to play correctly on PS3 blu ray player?
The 1080p files that need to be re-coded were initially encoded for playback on the PC, and not for Blu-ray/PS3. If you are having trouble with MeGUI maybe try Ripbot264, it's a little more user friendly. There are some 1080p files, mostly newer ones that are ready to play, unless the uploader provides the encoding stats the only way to tell would be to download the sample, if provided first and test.
what am i looking for in the description for the files that r ready to play on ps3/blu ray player? 1080p and 720p?
99% of the time it's the Reference Frames, or ref=, that value for 1080p mkvs should be 4 or lower. For 720p mkvs I believe it is either 10 or 12, I'm not sure though. Notice in my first response to you, I hightlighted the ref=5 value, that is generally a first indicator if it will be playable on the PS3/standalone or not.
Most of the time yeah, or you can save yourself the bandwidth (and grief) and download the sample that usually comes with it first. Or sometimes the uploader provides the stats direcetly on the website or in the .nfo file.
