    Eeeexxxcellent Smithers...

Now this is the way to upgrade firmware. None of that crap about unhooking other writers and changing jumper settings.

Question. I live in the US and Benq didn't have the firmware update on the site if you choose US as the region you are from. Can I use the firmware to update my DW1655 (from Newegg) that is posted on the European site.
Is there a difference or is it just not released to US buyers yet? I have firmware BCAB and want to get the latest BCDB. Great drive, burned only 2 disks so far with no problems.

The firmware BCDB for the DW1655 was on the U.S. support site about a week ago. They must have taken it off for some reason.

If your drive is currently working fine i would just leave it as is, thats my opinion though. Maybe wait and see if an updated firmware comes out.

    Hi,
If you look at this page on the US site, it implies 1655 not yet available.(Yes, I know it is.)The fact that the f/w was there & now is not. May have been an error when updating site.

The above links in my previous post are global.
Whether you flash or not is up to you. Personally I'd recommend to flash, as I get better results with BCDB. However at this moment in time, if you flash there's no going back as there's only the one f/w.

I went ahead and flashed with BCDB from european site and had no problems, drive working fine so far. Reading, ripping and burning the few disks I did with no problems. I have had the drive only 4 days so have not tried all it's features yet but will post if I run into any Problems. Thanks all!

I bought the new Benq DW1655 and I upgraded to BCDB and I use TY media DVD-R printable, burn with imgburn, and use dvdShrink with ANYDVD in the background. I get some probs with stop and start its seems at every chapter or whatever. I burn at 2.4. I didn't have these with the old burn which was a Microadvantage dvd-r +r d/l burner. I kept hearing Benq is the best and I also wanted the LS but am not impressed yet. Any suggestion on what to do next. Any help would be a great help.

I believe other members here has had better results at 4x and 8x with the Ben-q.I have the 1640 and 1655 and always burn at 4x with Verbatim +R's booktyped to DVD-ROM no problems.
