I'm not new to ripping DVD's. I've backed up about 300+ movies with anydvd/clonedvd. Those programs are real no brainers for making backups. What I am new to is the booktyping topic. It as far as I know my NEC 3520 burns DVD+R with the booktype of DVD+R and I don't think this can be changed. (If anyone knows how to change that please tell me). I know that the booktyping for DL media is set to DVD-ROM by default. That's good I don't want to change that even though I can change that with imgburn.

Here is the real question. I've decided it's time to get a new burner. I wanted the Benq DW 1640, but I can't find it from a retailer I trust. I'm interested in the DW 1655, but have no interest in lightscribe. So I'm waiting for the DW 1650 to arrive. Does the 1640 and the 1655 have the DVD+R booktype set to DVD-ROM? I figure the DW 1655 will have the same default settings. If not, is their a way to make this change and continue to use anydvd/clonedvd with booktype set to DVD-ROM?

    Thanks in advance!

You can search for a booktype utility for your drives. Or use Decrypter to change the setting, then burn in clone. It will work. You have to have the media present so it can see a +R disc. If it won't change then your drive is not capable at the present to bookset. It might with a firmware upgrade or hack.

The BenQ DW1640/50/55 all use the same utility package 'QSuite'

Here is a link for QSuite: http://support.benq.com/front/BenqMain.asp?MenuHead=128&ShowType=program&FileURL=service/driverlist.asp&Dataid=18368&downloadclass=Software&product=3731&langu=null&ops=null&GenMenu=&RootId=undefined

..and this link has info on the utilities
    http://www.benq.com/NewProducts/product.cfm?product=14

    ...a firmware page
    http://support.benq.com/front/BenqMain.asp?MenuHead=128&ShowType=program&FileURL=service/downloadquery_next.asp&product=3731&dclass=Driver&ops=all&language=all&flag=1&GenMenu=&RootId=undefined
