Hello guys, If you have a chance to buy a brand new benq dw1620 at 36.94 shipped, would you do it?? is it worth to stock up?? How is it compare to the dw1650??
thread teleported to relevant forum. i haven't used the 1620 so don't know but you might find posts/posters in this forum that have..
Well, I don't have one of these drives, but nevertheless, thought I'd comment. As a BenQ, you're bound to be getting a good drive, regardless of model. It is a slightly older drive, so you'd need to keep the firmware updated , use slower media etc. At $37 it is a good price to buy at, IMO, for a BenQ. However, I wouldn't "stock up", so to speak, as they're are better drives out there, even though it's a BenQ. Hope that helps
I've got 2 of them, first one is 25 months old and over 3500+ backups and counting. It's an I/O magic 16x that turned out to be a ligitimate Benq 1620 with the B7C9 firmware. Sill a strong burner, but using it as a reader and letting my Plextor Px-716A do the burning in that backup pc. The 2nd-bought it after finding out how highly compatable my backups were-was a retail Benq 1620 from newegg.com and it's about 21 months old. Only 2000 backups from that drive so far and sitting on my shelf in case any other of my q's die. I had compatability issues with a couple other of my non benq drives, and the 2nd q took care of that. They were my main work horses, LOL Good qualities: 1)Booktyping capable-via dvd shrink/nero6. They love the plus format and dash definitely give them the only issues-playback/burn coasters. 2)Qsuite:Works with only 4/5 of the qsuite programs-not for the overburn protection or solidburn. 3)These are quality drives, and some members at cdfreaks.com rate this drive as the best benq drive of all of them. 4) Burns everything you slap in her,and DLs as well. 5) Coasters? I avg 1 every 500+ backups-even using cmags. 6) Longevity- I can't even kill one. I burned 25 discs in a row and not a single issue. Drawbacks: 1) These drives overburn most 8x media at 12x and 16x. Qsuite won't work on that issue. Drawback is some programs give me 1x/2x/2.4x/and max as your burn settings-single drive pcs. Burning slow with qaulity media gives more pif errors. Dual drives should give you more burn settings. I'd say it is well worth that price!!!!!!!! I rate the 1640 as my best, then the 1620,and then 1650 according to my PIF scans.
did you noticec that those 1620s were made in malasyia and rest of the others were made in china. i dont know if that have anything to do with quality or not. well, i wont be expecting a 3000 burn, as long as it does 1500 and i will let it retire. so with your expertise on those benq drives, 1620, 1640, and 1655 it not too much to ask them for 1500 burn counts right?? i think with the price i bought them at 1500 is well worth the money. do you the brand new px-716 will surpass them in burn counts??
