I have a 20Gig iriver media player that supports mp3,wma,asf,wav, and ogg files and wanted to know the best format and bit rate of that format to store music on it with. I want something with good quality, where's it's hard to tell the difference between the cd and when I listen to it on my iriver. I want to be able to fit alot of songs on it as also. I dont know much about the various formats so I'm open to any and all suggestions. If you could give me a good encoder to use as well that would help, i've heard of lame for mp3s but don't know whats the best if ogg, or whatever would be better for my situation. thanks for the help One more question, some of my music files in mycomputer say the bit rate is like 320 or 256 but when I play it in windows media player it says its different like 241 or 171 something like that and I was wondering why it did this. Thanks again for the help
Stick with MP3. Use EAC (Exact Audio Copy). Here is the guide http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm Recommend Lame Encoder settings thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1912 The files you say that are different in BitRate are VBR MP3 files. VBR = Variable Bit Rate and is the best type of MP3 you can create using EAC with Lame.
