Our church's website has a multimedia page. We have some sermons posted for listening. It takes 2-4 min. to download to real player. These were created as a .WAV file and then stored on a audio host site. I was told that if they were .MP3 it would make the file smaller and shorten the download time. I converted a file from .WAV to .MP3 and the 50mb file became 72mb. So what is better? .MP3 or .WAV Here is the page.
I'm not sure what you had done to compress a .wav file into a .mp3 that created a larger file. The file size you want is 4-5 MBs or less. You should compress the .wav file to .mp3 because it is the more popular of compressions. Use 96kbps @ 22100 KHz ... that should retain a bit of quality and shrink the file size to distribute quickly.
