I am looking for the best program to convert movie files into dvd. I currently use ConvertXtoDVD. It is nice because I can also create a menu with it (albeit a very basic one). ConvertXtoDVD tends to smear colours (black screen intermission) of scences. I am looking for a program that produces excellent quality dvd files...it doesn't have to have the burning capabilities like convertXtoDVD, I can use cloneDVD. But a good quality, fast and with menu capabilities. What is the best program out there?
Actually I think ConvertXtoDVD is supposed to be pretty good, have a look at this guide to see that you have your quality setting all set up correctly. http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide15.html
Hi smokeydvd, ConvertXtoDVD uses ffmpeg, the same engine / technology as several other companies. I think what makes a difference in the quality are: 1- Quality of the input files 2- How many files are you converting to 1 DVD5 ? --> Adding 4 files rather than 2 will make a huge difference in quality, because ConvertXtoDVD needs to lower the bitrate to fit all those files to 1 DVD5 media. 3- Using real low quality media and/or burned too fast, may cause flickers, freeze, playback issues, and might not help the quality on the output. Comments anyone ?
I believe ConvertX is more of a transcoder. If you want the very best quality, you need to look to encoders. Canopus ProCoder2 is used by video professionals worldwide for the file conversions you mention. It will convert just about anything into something else. It will cost from $200 up on eBay. I use it all the time...and the results are amazing...even when converting from PAL (25 fps) to NTSC (29.97 fps)...where it has to add frames to make the NTSC standard. ProCoder is not fast, though. Encoding is a bit by bit task. Transcoders, on the other hand, are quick and dirty...and that is why you often get poor quality. Procoder2 doesn't have a menu function. A lot of programs will do that for you once you input the converted files. Nero Recode/Vision will do this...and you can burn also.
Hello Doc409, Thanks for your input ! I think VSO ConvertXtoDVD is for an audience like me, where we know less or nothing about video formats etc... We just want a tool that you add a file, and convert, a little software your uncle and your grandmother can use. I think VSO has success on that. I read a lot of forums/threads, and to convert, and make extra crisp quality, it takes more than 1 hour of your time, and seems to need several operations. Personnaly, I am not a quality freak, so just to able to convert my little videos onto a DVD and being able to watch them quickly, is my goal...
Hi Coug. When smokey said the "best program" I read more emphasis on "best" rather than reading it as the easiest. It sounded like he wanted to get rid of the black smears, etc. Procoder2 does comes with an app called "Wizard" which is very, very easy to use, and will convert one file at a time. The other thing is that ProCoder2 really shines when it comes to anything having to do with tape. How does COnvertX compare wiht Nero? Nero is an all purpose app where cam files can be downloaded from the cam and converted into DVD's with some fairly nice menus.
