    Hello,

I am looking into purchasing a camcorder for use over the holidays. The purpose of this camera is bascially for home movies and vacations.

I have briefly looked at the following.

PANASONIC PV-GS200 MINI DV DIGITAL CAMCORDER
    CANON Optura 30 and 40

Your input is much appreciated, looking to pull the trigger tomorrow.

    Thanks,

    Chris B.

I'd say go with the Panasonic PV-GS200. I just bought the PV-GS120 yesterday and it is producing amazing results. I've already made a mini home movie and transferred it to my computer via firewire and the quality is superb. The 3 CCD system really is apparant. I've previously used Canon camcorders but the quality is very low compared to that of the 3 CCD Panasonic camcorders.

    Hi Cbarone,
I purchaed the GS200 on friday and encountered a fault with the tape transport mechanism. This has been verified by panasonic as a problem with a "small" number of their cameras (thats what they say)!!
the camera is beautiful to use but i'm returning it for a replacement. The GS200 has been voted arguably as the best camera available in this price bracket. They just need to get this minor fault sorted out though.
You may want to go to this site i found before i made up my mind on which camera to go for.
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/
It has a review on the GS200

There is also a Panasonic 3ccd user site if you decide to go that way.

    hope this helps
